GREEN BAY CHI ALPHA

Session 1 - Vision & Goals

GBXA is a Spirit-empowered, diverse community of believers,
declaring in word and lifestyle our faith in Jesus Christ,
equipped to fulfill our purpose in God’s global plan.

We believe that every follower of Jesus has a mandate that is unchanging and unending while we still have the breath and capacity to execute it. It is defined by the two commissioning statements of Jesus.

As the Father has sent me, I also send you.”  John 20:21
“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you.  And remember I am with you always to the end of the age.”  Matthew 28:18

Our vision of discipleship is that we will make disciples who make disciples. We will train and equip those disciple-makers to be prepared to continue in their commission regardless of where they are sent.

These are the things that will define us as we make disciples who make disciples:

  1. Green Bay XA will be marked by our relationship with Jesus, each other, the campus, and the world
  2. We will model abiding time from the top down—staff to discipleship team to core groups to students to their circles of influence on campus.
  3. Each person who attends Chi Alpha will have a demonstration of what it looks like to worship God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.
    • We will regularly teach on Holy Spirit baptism and give opportunities to receive.
    • Students will be encouraged to practice Holy Spirit gifts not only within Chi Alpha services and core groups, but also as they are going about their days in class, at work and in their dorms.
  4. Green Bay XA will not be a passive participation ministry, but a ministry where students fully participate in ministering to one another.
    • The campus will no longer be known as a suitcase school that breeds loneliness, but rather a school where students can find real community and life-giving friendships.
  5. Raising up students to leadership—discipling other disciple makers—will be our greatest win.  We will celebrate wins and growth, both in individual’s lives and corporately, for what is happening in Green Bay XA.
  6. As a member of Green Bay XA, each student will know and understand their responsibility to give, go, pray, and welcome.
  7. We will make Green Bay XA strong and healthy so that it will be a sending ministry to our city, our region, and the world.

How will we accomplish this vision?

We will:
  • Seek and rely on the empowerment of the Holy Spirit.
  • Read and be familiar with the Word of God.
  • Continually challenge one another to be obedient to the Word of God.
  • Declare Jesus by our words and our actions.

We will also commit to live by the LIST
  • Love – Love God with everything we have & love others as ourselves.
  • Invite – Invite others to live life with us.  This is an invitation to real life, not just an invitation to a weekly meeting.  We will invite not only those who are like us, but those who are different than us.  We will commit to continuing to do life together even when things get hard.
  • Serve – We will serve each other and brothers and sisters by meeting real needs.  We will also look outside ourselves to serve the needs of individual students around us, the campus, and the greater Green Bay area if possible.
  • Transform – We commit to every student giving, going, praying, and welcoming.  We will resist becoming navel gazers and will look to expand the Kingdom of God as an act of obedience to Jesus.

Where will this happen?

LARGE GROUP: Large group is the place where all of Green Bay XA comes together to worship, learn, and encounter God’s work through the Holy Spirit corporately.

CORE GROUP: Core Group is the place where the LIST will be modeled and developed in the life of each student who is willing to grow. Core Groups will meet weekly and will be a place where deep community bonds can form and where students can disciple one another in faith and obedience. Core Group leaders will form each group from students they meet during Welcome Week and then continuing throughout the year.

ONE ON ONE: 1 on 1 discipleship will take place weekly between a student and their Core Group leader (or a Core Group leader and their D-Group leader). A 1 on 1 is the place where students are discipled in their faith journey and when appropriate, leadership skills. Every week students will have the opportunity to address with their mentor what they are learning from the Lord and issues that are affecting them directly.

LIFE GROUP: Life group is where community will grow from inviting someone to a Bible Study or an event, to inviting someone to live life with you. This will happen through a mix of planned outings and spontaneous hangouts. It will take place during one-off events and the routine tasks of everyday life like grocery shopping, laundry, and studying.

ON CAMPUS; As students are equipped and empowered to make disciples, they will engage their campus in purposeful, meaningful, and fun ways.

GOALS & DEFINING WINS

Goals for 2025-2026:
  • Everyone on the Discipleship Team is consistently practicing BELLS
  • Life Group Events are happening weekly
  • Everyone is growing in their abiding time with Jesus
  • International students are a part of Core Groups and Large Groups
  • Prayer and fasting are an integral part of our culture
  • Outreaches are happening multiple times a month
  • Core Groups are healthy and thriving
  • Numerical growth in all areas as a team (Large Group, Core Groups, Apprenticeship Class, retreat attendance, etc.). Healthy things grow.

Questions to ask yourself to know if you’re meeting goals & reaching wins:
  • What does my abiding time with Jesus look like?  Am I tithing my time?  If not, am I closer to tithing my time than I was last semester?
  • Am I practicing BELLS every week?
  • How many people have I invited to Core Group?
  • How many new people have I met this week?
  • Who in my Core Group will I recommend to Apprenticeship?
  • How have I served the campus and the Chi Alpha group this week?
  • What International Students have I met this week?  What international student have I grown in friendship with this week?
